Could it be my sleepy eyes, in this lifetime, I actually witnessed the unprecedented collaboration between Intel and AMD.

Here's the scoop: Lenovo Group held its annual innovation conference, Tech World, in Seattle today, and unveiled a series of AI products, technologies, and solutions.

The collaboration between Intel and AMD is a key outcome of this conference.

During the event, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announced that Intel will be shaking hands with AMD for the first time on the x86 front, forming a joint X86 Ecosystem Advisory Group. To quote Gelsinger, "x86 isn't just alive, it's thriving."

Additionally, besides introducing a wave of new AI products, Lenovo also flexed its muscles at the event by inviting some heavy hitters to the party.

NVIDIA founder Jensen Huang, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, AMD CEO Lisa Su, Microsoft chairman Satya Nadella, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, and others familiar faces in the global AI elite all participated in this event.

Let's go over some highlights of this conference:

  • Lenovo AI Now Intelligence Agent launch
  • Establishment of the X86 Ecosystem Advisory Group
  • Launch of the Neptune Liquid-Cooled Server
  • Introduction of the Hybrid Artificial Intelligence Advantage Suite
  • Release of new AI PCs

Intel and AMD Rarely Join Forces, Unleashing a Wave of Heavyweight AI New Products

Lenovo Group chairman and CEO Yang Yuanqing said that Lenovo believes that artificial intelligence is not just a passing trend, nor is it an inflated bubble.

"AI has improved the quality of life for individuals, increased productivity for businesses, and has protected a more sustainable planet," Yang said.

In fact, at last year's Tech World conference, Lenovo had already defined the future as "hybrid artificial intelligence."

Lenovo believes that enterprise foundational models and private clouds will coexist with public foundational models and public clouds to shape the future of hybrid artificial intelligence.

Yang Yuanqing stated, "Now, this trend is even more pronounced. Private AI—including personal AI and enterprise AI—will coexist with public AI. They complement each other, providing enhanced results for different customer needs."

For individual consumers, users can now access personal AI through devices like personal computers, tablets, and smartphones. These devices are equipped with AI models that can understand commands and conduct local reasoning through natural interaction. Additionally, they can also connect with public AI tools on the cloud.

In April of this year, Lenovo was the first in the industry to launch a truly meaningful AI PC with five major features. According to Canalys statistics (as of August 2024), Lenovo AI PC shipments have increased by as much as 228% month-on-month.

Today, Lenovo has once again made a big move by launching the latest personal AI intelligence agent called AI Now.

AI Now is the personal AI gateway on Lenovo PCs, and the personal intelligence agent it activates is the key differentiator of Lenovo AI PCs.

Specifically, AI Now integrates the Meta Llama 3 large language model, providing fast, secure local processing power for content generation and document management without relying on cloud services. Through natural language interaction, AI Now can also help users manage devices and provide query services.

Another standout feature is its robust data security framework, including local encryption and comprehensive control of data through personal knowledge stored on the device to ensure privacy and data security.

During the conference, Lenovo also gave a live demonstration.

Activated by the "AI key" (F9), AI Now can seamlessly transfer notes and images from a tablet to a PC. Another powerful feature is its ability to perform heterogeneous computing, generating content based on text and images simultaneously.

It is worth mentioning that Lenovo also unveiled the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 10 at this conference.

This AI PC, jointly developed by Lenovo and Intel, represents the pinnacle of personal computers, equipped with AI-driven features like Smart Modes and CoPilot+, providing a personalized convertible device experience and over 18 hours of battery life.

Outside the PC realm, domestic and foreign smartphone manufacturers are also working hard to integrate AI deeply into smartphones. It can be said that 2024 is an important year for the landing of the AI phone war, and Lenovo's Motorola is no exception.

At this conference, Lenovo introduced Moto AI, aiming to revolutionize the user experience of smartphones through assisting, capturing, and creating in the core areas of change—assisted by the large action model (LAM).

Moto AI can learn from user behavior, understand natural language, and take action in applications and services. For example, before traveling, with the "Remember This" and "Memory Finder" features of Moto AI, every detail shared by the user will be stored locally.

When it's time to depart, by asking simple questions like "What time is my flight tomorrow?" or "What do I need to pack?" or "When should I leave?" Moto AI will easily recall without the user needing to search multiple applications or flip through screenshots, photos, or any saved content.

When a user wants to order a cup of coffee, simply saying "Get me a cup of coffee," Moto AI will take care of the rest, including finding the nearest store, placing the order, and notifying the user when it's ready.

Moreover, when the user is unable to view phone messages conveniently, Moto AI's "catch me up" feature will help summarize all messages quickly. With AI taking one more step, users can take one less step on their phones.

In short, AI is coming in droves, and the landing of large models in terminals and industries is no longer distant. From essential PCs and smartphones to a variety of smart hardware devices, AI is moving from the "thinking" stage to the reality of "using" at a fast pace.

Bringing Elite AI Circles Together, Lenovo is Becoming the Hub Connecting AGI

To truly popularize AI, the efforts of a single company are far from enough.

The gathering of AI elites is not a "Hero Gathering at Mount Huashan," but a hope through open collaboration and strong alliances to promote the development of AI technology and share the benefits of AI with everyone.

For example, during the event, Pat Gelsinger, CEO of Intel, announced the unprecedented first-time collaboration between Intel and AMD to form the X86 Ecosystem Advisory Group.

Gelsinger passionately declared at the conference:

Some say the era of X86 is over? I'm here to tell you, rumors of its "demise" have been greatly exaggerated. We are alive and well, and X86 is thriving. We believe that we are on the cusp of one of the most important periods of innovation for the X86 architecture. The X86 architecture, which has been the foundation of computing for decades, is about to experience a period of customization, expansion, and scalability, and this is the opportunity brought by artificial intelligence.

The X86 Ecosystem Advisory Group brings together leaders from across the ecosystem to shape the future of X86, simplify software development, ensure interoperability and interface consistency, and provide developers with standard architecture tools and instruction sets.

Regarding Lenovo's participation, Gelsinger said, "We believe this will open up a new category of innovation around systems and entirely new workloads. We welcome Lenovo as a founding member of this advisory group and are honored to see other companies joining Intel, AMD, and Lenovo."

Dr. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, also stated in her subsequent remarks:

Our X86 Ecosystem Advisory Group reflects the unique nature of technology in today's era. Ultimately, the direction we are working towards is accelerating the development of computing power and driving the widespread application of computing technology.
