Lebanon's Transport minister stated on Friday that Israeli airstrikes have rendered a second border crossing between the country and Syria inoperable, leaving only one main official passage between the two nations operational.

"The Qaa crossing has been taken out of service after an Israeli strike on Syrian territory," Ali Hamieh informed AFP, mentioning that the strike has halted the movement of vehicles.

On October 4, Israel targeted the vicinity of the Masnaa crossing, the primary international route between Lebanon and Syria, causing damage to the road and rendering the crossing nonfunctional. Human Rights Watch reported that these attacks hindered civilian evacuations and aid efforts.

Israel defended the airstrikes as efforts to prevent weapons from entering Lebanon to Hezbollah from Syria, including the targeting of an alleged underground tunnel for arms transportation from Iran.

Since then, the crossing has been repeatedly hit, preventing authorities from conducting repairs.

An Israeli airstrike struck the Syrian side of the Qaa crossing, located approximately 90 kilometers (55 miles) northeast of Masnaa, on September 26.

Despite the damage to the crossing, many individuals continue to flee to Syria on foot.

Official reports indicate that nearly 500,000 people, primarily Syrians, have sought refuge in Syria following Israel's extensive airstrikes on Hezbollah strongholds in Lebanon in late September.

This escalation followed nearly a year of limited clashes across the border with Hezbollah, which cited support for Palestinian group Hamas during the conflict in Gaza.

Subsequently, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of at least 1,580 individuals, according to Lebanese health ministry data compiled by AFP.

The conflict has displaced over one million individuals, as reported by Lebanese officials.
